WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE OBTAINING YOUR PISTOL PERMIT

These days, getting a concealed handgun permit may seem daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. At NYFS, we’re here to help make the process as smooth as possible for you, but the first step is knowing New York’s concealed carry laws. Applying for a NY Pistol Permit varies by county (NYC has its own set of policies).

Steps to Obtain Your New York Pistol Permit

1. Complete the 16-hour safety course. Find our current class schedule and sign up today here.
2. Call us and we will guide you to find your jurisdiction’s application for your county for a NY State Pistol Permit.
3. Find and visit or call your local county sheriff office, courthouse, or county clerk’s office to obtain and/or submit your application.
4. You will undergo background checks by NY State, FBI, and will be interviewed by jurisdictional authorities.
5. Submit your application to your jurisdiction for further processing and consideration.
6. You will eventually be notified of approval or denial.
